
Paul has traveled extensively throughout the continent, is a WINGS tour
leader, and has written many articles and papers on North American bird
distribution and identification. He has strong interest in the fields of
weather, biogeography, and North American regional geography. Holding claim to
the world’s largest yard list at 316 species, Cape May veterans look to Paul for
his innate sense for weather predictions and bird migration. He served as editor
of Birding magazine for nine years and was chief editor of the ABA/Lane Bird
Finding Guide to North America’s major metropolitan regions. Paul has been a
principal consultant on several popular field guides including his role as
senior range-map researcher and consultant for the new editions of Roger Tory
Peterson’s Field Guide to the Birds (East), the National Geographic Society’s
Field Guide to the Birds of North America and their Complete Birds of North
America, and the two-volume Sibley East and West field guides.
