David La Puma

David La Puma is a graduate student at Rutgers University, seeking his Ph.D. in avian ecology and conservation. His thesis research is on the effects of fire on the endangered Cape Sable seaside sparrow (Ammodramus maritimus mirabilis) in Everglades National Park, Florida. Since arriving in New Jersey in 2004, David has developed two websites for monitoring nocturnal bird migration using weather radar; woodcreeper.com covers the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic with emphasis on New Jersey, while Badbirdz – Reloaded focuses on migration in and out of Florida. David's articles on radar ornithology have been featured in popular birding magazines such as WildBird, and he particularly enjoys presenting his technique and observations to birding groups around the country.
