Join expert naturalists from the Cape May Bird Observatory aboard the stable, covered pontoon boat Duke O’ Fluke to experience exceptionally rich islands, marshes and waterways behind Ocean City, Longport and Margate. Boarding a boat gives you the keys to this natural kingdom. Cruise highlights include Bird and Cowpens Islands, with their nesting ibis, egrets and night-herons; Malibu Beach and its colony of Black Skimmers; several Osprey nests; and Pork Island’s colonies of gulls and terns. See elegant wetland birds tending their fuzzy, down-covered babies, and learn about their ecology. Loaner binoculars available. Jackets and sweaters are recommended in case it is windy or chilly.
Cost: $25 adults and children age 13 and over; $15 for children age 5-12; children under 5 free.
DIRECTIONS: Sails from the municipal pier at the end of Higbee Avenue in Somers Point. If northbound,take Garden State Parkway exit 29 onto Route 9 North, turn right at the Shell gas station, go to Somers Point Traffic Circle, and follow directions below. If southbound, take Parkway exit 30, from exit toll go straight ahead on Laurel Drive, through Route 9 intersection to the Somers Point traffic circle and follow directions below. From the Somer's Point traffic circle, follow the "H" Hospital sign to Shore Road and look for Charlie's Bar on the right; go one more block to Higbee Avenue and turn right, go one block to Bay Avenue, crossover Bay Avenue and enter parking lot on right. The dock is at the bottom end of the parking lot.
